Larry Stein - (405) 713-1201, cell (405) 361-9307
March 15th Deadline looms for Homestead Exemption filing and Business Personal Property Taxes Oklahoma County Assessor Larry Stein wants to remind business owners and homeowners of an annual March 15th deadline.
“You can save money on your property taxes if you apply for a HOMESTEAD EXEMPTION before March 15th,” Stein said. “The savings are around $127 a year, but you have to file before March 15th and meet the qualifications.” “In Oklahoma County if you lived in your home on January 1st of 2021, and it’s your primary residence, then you may be eligible for a Homestead Exemption. The Homestead Exemption provides an exemption of the first $1,000 of assessed value and after the calculations, and depending on your tax rate, a Homestead Exemption can save you a maximum of $137 each year,” Stein said.
Property tax owners can print and apply for the Homestead Exemption from the Oklahoma County Assessor’s internationally recognized and award winning website.
“If you need the form to be mailed to you, please contact the office at (405) 713-1236,” Stein said.
Stein also wants business owners, farmers, owners of manufactured homes and those who operate business out of their own homes to remember to file their Business Personal Property Returns for equipment they use for business (Form 901) by March 15th with the County Assessor’s Office.
“The law is clear if this deadline isn’t met: ‘…all who fail to list all or any part of their person property for the current year, on or before March 15, shall be delinquent.’ The assessors are required to enforce a penalty on those who fail to render their personal property on time,” Stein said. “The majority of taxes for Business Personal Property goes to our public schools and we all agree how important education is to our economy.”
