OKLAHOMA CITY- OKC business leader Phil Busey was appointed at Monday’s Oklahoma County Board of County Commissioner’s meeting to serve as a member of the Oklahoma City-County Board of Health. Busey, whom Commissioner Carrie Blumert recommended, will fill the seat previously held by Dr. Courtney Gray. The vote approving the appointment was 3-0.

The Oklahoma City–County Health Department was created in 1954 upon the merger of the City of Oklahoma City Health Department and the County Health Department. The department’s focus is protecting public health, promoting wellness, preventing disease, and partnering with the community to create a healthy future.

When asked about her recommendation to appoint Busey, Blumert said she was “proud to appoint Phil Busey to the Oklahoma City-County Health Department Board of Health. Not only is Phil a leader in the aerospace industry, but he is also passionate about affordable healthcare access for all Oklahoma City and County residents. Phil’s charismatic leadership and desire to serve will be a wonderful asset to our City-County Health Department.”

Following his appointment, Mr. Busey stated, “It is an honor to be selected by Commissioner Blumert to serve on the Oklahoma City-County Board of Health. The mission of the Board is essential to continue working to improve the health of our citizens, and I regard this opportunity to serve of the highest importance.”

Mr. Busey received his Bachelor of Arts from Oklahoma City University and Juris Doctorate from Oklahoma City University School of Law. His practice areas include commercial and corporate law, Native American law, Federal Law and Regulation, government contracting, and financial transactions. Busey has been a Distinguished Professor at OCU School of Law, a Professor Lecturer at American University in Washington, D.C., on tribal economic development, and a Professor Lecturer for the OU Aerospace and master’s degree program.

Busey has served on the Oklahoma City Universities Board of Trustees for eight years. He is a member of The Oklahoma City Downtown Rotary Club. He has received numerous business and community awards, including the John F. Kennedy Community Service Award from the Santa Fe Family Life Center. In 2013, OCU awarded Busey with the Chairman’s Award, and he was inducted into the Oklahoma Commerce and Industry Hall of Honor. Busey and his wife Cathy have been named Distinguished Alumni of OCU and were awarded the Bishop Millhouse Award for Service and Support of OCU and Methodist Conference. In addition, he has been honored by the Cherokee Nation for community service and leadership.
