Commissioner Carrie Blumert issued a follow-up statement today voicing her continued opposition and disgust for the Governor’s recent comments in support of cockfighting in Oklahoma.  Blumert made her initial remarks on the controversy while serving as a co-host on Flash Point which aired on KFOR TV in Oklahoma City yesterday.

“As an Oklahoman, it’s appalling to me that our governor would voice his support of this barbaric act,” said Blumert.  “The issue of cockfighting in Oklahoma was decided over twenty years ago when the people voted to outlaw the practice.”

Blumert, who serves on the board of the Oklahoma Humane Society, is a passionate advocate for the humane treatment of animals, concluded by saying, “I call on the governor and his supporters in the legislature to stop trying to pass that legislation seeks to overturn the desires of the people.”

Blumert noted that she was concerned that if the efforts of those involved with cockfighting were successful it would harm Oklahoma’s future efforts in economic development as well.
