District 1 Commissioner Jason Lowe Announces Appointment of Dr. Noor Jihan Abdul-Haqq to the Oklahoma City-County Board of Health

Oklahoma County, OK - At today’s Board of County Commissioner meeting, Commissioner Jason Lowe recommended Dr. Noor Jihan Abdul-Haqq for a seat on the Oklahoma City-County Board of Health. Lowe’s motion to approve Dr. Abdul-Haqq passed 3-0. Dr. Abdul-Haqq is a board-certified integrative pediatrician and dedicated community health advocate for Oklahoma County.

The Oklahoma City-County Health Department was created in 1954. It focuses on protecting public health, promoting wellness, and partnering with the community to create a healthy future. As a member of the board Dr. Abdul-Haqq will help oversee and set future goals for the department.

When asked about his recommendation to appoint Dr. Abdul-Haqq, Lowe said, “I am thrilled to welcome Dr. Abdul-Haqq to the Oklahoma City-County Board of Health. Her extensive medical experience and passion for public health will be invaluable as we work to foster healthier communities throughout Oklahoma County.”

Dr. Abdul-Haqq, the owner of Peace of Mind Pediatrics in Del City, was also instrumental in spearheading efforts to open the Clara Community Health Center in Northeast Oklahoma City, a free clinic serving the uninsured. When asked about her appointment, she expressed excitement about serving the community in a new role, “I am honored to be selected by Commissioner Lowe to serve as a member of the Oklahoma City-County Board of Health.” She continued, “I look forward to collaborating with my colleagues to improve health equity and empower our community.”

Dr. Abdul-Haqq is a dedicated physician, exemplifying leadership in promoting health and well-being. With a degree in Biochemistry from Spelman College and a medical degree from Morehouse School of Medicine. She has extensive domestic and international experience, including work in Barbados, the Dominican Republic, and Mexico. Her commitment to healthcare excellence has earned her numerous awards, including the Leonard Tow Humanism in Medicine Award, the Journal Record's Achievers Under 40 Award, and recognition as a healthcare hero by the Journal Record, highlighting her ongoing efforts to advance healthcare for all.
