OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma County’s credit rating remains strong due to responsible fiscal management and the region’s positive economic outlook, said Oklahoma County Clerk Maressa Treat. Moody’s recently affirmed the county’s “Aa1” rating, the highest available for the county.
“I appreciate the leadership and continued conservative fiscal management from county officials. These sound fiscal policies, combined with a strong economic outlook, keep our credit rating strong and help keep borrowing costs low for important infrastructure projects,” Treat said.
Credit rating agencies evaluate county finances and economic data when assigning ratings. Strong ratings reduce borrowing costs, while lower ratings increase them. The Clerk’s Office compiles and submits the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR) to the state auditor and inspector for review, after which credit agencies use it to help determine the county’s rating.
Treat said the state auditor’s office is reviewing the Fiscal Year 2024 ACFR currently. She said the Clerk’s Office is on track to finalize the FY 2024 ACFR by the end of October and has already begun work on the FY 2025 report.
Since taking office in 2023, Treat said her staff has delt with challenges including outdated systems from previous administrations and the retirement of several employees experienced in preparing the ACFR.
“It’s been challenging and required a lot of hard work, and I’m extremely proud of the County Clerk’s Office team for rolling up their sleeves to get the job done. We will continue modernizing our operations to better serve taxpayers. Citizens deserve accountability and transparency at all levels of government, and my office is committed to providing timely, accurate information on how county tax dollars are spent,” Treat said.
