Oklahoma County, OK- As we celebrate National Nonprofit Day on August 17, Commissioner Carrie Blumert of Oklahoma County District 1 reflects on her dedicated commitment to supporting nonprofit organizations in Oklahoma County.
Since taking office in 2019, Commissioner Blumert has prioritized personally visiting nonprofit organizations throughout her district and Oklahoma County every week.
Commissioner Blumert's dedication to visiting nonprofits has resulted in over 234 hours of direct engagement with 118 community partners.
This significant investment of time has given her a deep understanding of these organizations' needs and challenges, allowing her to better advocate for the resources and support they require to continue their vital work. It also helps her to connect constituents with resources.
"It has been an honor to personally connect with the incredible nonprofit organizations that serve our community," said Commissioner Blumert. “These visits have allowed me to not only understand the needs of our County but also to build meaningful partnerships that benefit the residents of District 1.”
In addition to her regular visits, Commissioner Blumert serves on the boards of three local nonprofits: ReMerge of Oklahoma County, the Oklahoma Humane Society, and Teach For America Oklahoma City.
“Nonprofits play a crucial role in addressing the diverse needs of communities, from providing essential social services to advocating for important causes. They often fill gaps in services that government or for-profit entities may not be able to address, making a real difference in the lives of individuals and families.”
Oklahoma nonprofits employ more than 85,000 individuals across 21,252 registered organizations as of February 2024, generating nearly $19.5 billion in revenue and holding more than $63 billion in assets, while volunteers contribute over 94.5 million hours valued at over $2.2 billion (Oklahoma Center for Nonprofits 2024).
There are 5,006 registered nonprofits in Oklahoma County, of which 1,760 have filed income. These nonprofits have reported a total revenue of $7,664,562,532 and hold assets valued at $20,127,161,790 (Oklahoma Center for Nonprofits 2024).
The Commissioner encourages the community to take this opportunity to celebrate the invaluable contributions of nonprofits by volunteering their time, expertise or donating to their favorite nonprofit.
